Springbrook B&B

The Sanctuary at Springbrook: Warm and welcoming Bed & Breakfast

WHEN tourists come to Queensland, it’s only natural that they like to stay in the region’s own unique style of housing, the Queenslander. A family at Springbrook has catered for this unquestionable demand with a bed and breakfast facility called The Sanctuary.

To design this magnificent home and accommodation, they called on an expert in the field, Garth Chapman’s Traditional Queenslanders. The standard Carpentaria design was adjusted to suit the owners’ individual requirements.

Standing majestically on .8ha of creek-front ground surrounded by rainforest, The Sanctuary offers a warm welcome with wide wrap-around verandahs, cedar-framed windows and French doors, colonial architecture and the unmistakable beauty of timeless timber.

In the main house, three bedrooms, formal living and dining rooms, a study, family room and country-style kitchen fan out from the extra-long, wide hallway. This space perfectly suits the display of antique furniture, photos and knick-knacks treasured by The Sanctuary’s owner.

While the overall impression is of colonial-inspired good taste, this home also undoubtedly provides the best of home comforts. The kitchen boasts a walk-in pantry large enough to hide the fridge and other whitegoods. This storage room leaves the kitchen to appear as olde world as possible, with stained timber cabinets, granite benchtops and built-in plate and wine racks.

A window servery equipped with bi-folds allows ease of entertaining on the party-size corner verandah.

Dado and picture rails, wood heater, hardwood timber flooring, earthy colours, high ceilings and decorative breezeways continue the heritage theme throughout.

Since establishing in 1988 Garth Chapman’s Traditional Queenslanders has captured the best aspects of colonial homes and incorporated them into comfortable houses with all the amenities expected of modern living.
